Yellowstone National Park is planning to implement some temporary fishing closures. The following waterways will be closed to all fishing, effective Wednesday, August 1:
• Gibbon River below Gibbon Falls
• Firehole River below Keppler Cascades
• Madison River
The Coeur d'Alene
We may have just turned a corner with the weather and what the forcast says for next week or so. Cooler weather should really get things going. Caddis, BWO's, PMD's, PED's rusty spinners, should all start hatching and the fish should love the cloud cover. Don't forget about the terrestrials and attractors, but the hatches should be a lot better compared to the last few weeks.
The St. Joe
Good hatches should dominate throughout the day. Caddis, PMD's, mahoganies, rusty spinner will be on the menu and should compliment your hopper ant or beetle very well. Much more likely to find fish in the tailouts and slower runs with the cooler temps, and hopefully cloud cover, so look for feeding fish instead of just prospecting until you move something.
Clark Fork
Could be really good over on the Fork now the temps have dropped and the bugs should get moving again.
Eastern Washington
Now that North Idaho is fishing haven't been hearing too much about the desert creeks or lakes.
STEELHEAD
This should really get things moving for the steelies. If the snake temps drop a little those fish should start coming over the dam and move farther up the clearwater.
Hayden & Other Area Lakes
Lakes are fishing great. Depending on what species your after there should be a lake to get it done. Chain Lakes for pike and bass. Hayden, Hauser, Cocollala, and Fernan, for crappie, pike, bass and trout, and E. Washington Lakes for trout.
Crab Creek
Great season on crab, but the heat has shut er down for the summer.
The caliber of fish that are in Crab Creek - "any big rainbow that is in a tiny little creek" - they are impressive!
Rivers We Fish Regularly
The staff at Northwest Outfitters regularly fish the North Fork of the Clearwater, Kelly Creek, and The Lochsa River. Call the shop to find out the fishing status of these beautiful Idaho waterways.
